Frequently asked questions
Everything parents ask about Baton: what it does, where your baby's data lives, how sharing works and what is free. Baton is not a substitute for medical advice.
About Baton
What is Baton?
Baton: Baby Tracker is a baby log for iPhone and iPad. You log breastfeeds, bottles, pumping, solids, sleep, diapers, growth and notes with big one-handed buttons, and both parents write to one log through their own iCloud. While you are expecting, Baton is also a free contraction timer.
Which devices does Baton run on?
iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later. There is no Android version yet; you can always export everything to CSV.
Can I download Baton now?
Not yet. Baton is being finished for the App Store, so the download buttons on this site say “Coming soon”. Once the app is live, they link straight to its App Store page.
Which languages is Baton in?
English, Vietnamese and eight more languages.
Sharing with your partner
How do two parents share one log?
In Baton, invite the other parent with an iCloud link sent through Messages, WhatsApp or any other app. Each of you keeps your own Apple ID; every entry travels through your own iCloud using Apple's CloudKit sharing. You both need an iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or later, signed in to iCloud.
Does my partner have to pay?
No. The log, timers, widgets and sync are free for both of you. If you buy Baton Plus, Apple's Family Sharing unlocks Plus for the members of your family group.
Can a grandparent or nanny log too?
Yes, if they have an iPhone or iPad. Invite them the same way. The person you invite can see and edit the whole shared log, so share only with people you trust. You can stop sharing or remove someone at any time in More › Partner & sync.
How fast is sync, and what if we're offline?
With both apps open, sync usually takes a few seconds. In the background iOS decides when Baton may wake, so an entry can occasionally wait until the next open. Offline or with iCloud off, Baton works fully: every entry is saved on the device first and synced when there is a connection.
Privacy and your data
Can the developer see my baby's data?
No. Baton has no server and no accounts. Your data lives on your devices and in your iCloud (and in the iCloud of anyone you invite). Your baby's name, birth date, notes and entry details are stored in CloudKit's end-to-end encrypted fields; the type of entry, its times, the child's sex, the chosen vaccine schedule and the logger's display name are standard iCloud fields, which Apple encrypts in transit and at rest.
Does Baton use analytics, ads or tracking?
No. Baton has no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no ads and no tracking across other apps. The only outside service is RevenueCat, which handles Baton Plus purchases with an anonymous ID and receives nothing about your child. At most once a day, Baton asks the App Store which version is current, sending only the app's identifier and your App Store country.
How do I export or delete my data?
Export: More › Reports & export › Export CSV — free, always. Delete: Settings › Delete all data, which removes everything on the device and in iCloud and stops sharing. It cannot be undone, so export a CSV first.
I use Nara Baby or another app. Can I bring my data?
Yes. Import a Nara Baby CSV export (tap your baby's photo › Export Data) or any spreadsheet in More › Import data. Baton shows you everything first, including rows it cannot import and why, skips duplicates, and lets you undo the whole import. The file is read on your iPhone and never uploaded. Free.
Free and Baton Plus
What is free?
The core is free forever: every kind of entry without limits, feed and sleep timers, the Live Activity, all widgets, partner and caregiver sync, your full history, today and 7-day charts, CSV export, Vietnam's vaccine schedule, your first child (and twins), night mode, expecting mode with the contraction timer, and data import. Baton promises not to move these behind a paywall later.
What does Baton Plus add, and how is it billed?
Plus adds the usual next-nap window for your baby's age with a reminder, 30- and 90-day trends, a PDF report for your pediatrician, more children, and your own reminders. It comes as an auto-renewing yearly plan (which starts with a free trial) or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Prices and renewal terms are in the pricing section on the home page; the App Store shows the exact price before you confirm.
I have twins.
Twins (same birth date) are always free. Baton Plus is only needed to track another child.
Health and safety
Does Baton give medical advice?
No. Baton is a log. Suggestions such as the nap window are typical ranges from published tables, with the source named in the app. Follow what your doctor, midwife or health visitor tells you, and call emergency services in an emergency.
Does the contraction timer tell me when to go to the hospital?
No. Baton only times contractions and always tells you to follow what your doctor or midwife said. If they gave you a 5-1-1 or 4-1-1 rule, you can pick it (it is off by default) and Baton tells you when your last hour matches it. The contraction timer is free, and Baton never shows a Plus offer during labour.
Where does Baton's vaccine schedule come from?
For a baby in Vietnam, Baton builds the national Expanded Programme on Immunization schedule from your baby's birth date, based on the Ministry of Health's Circular 52/2025/TT-BYT, names the source in the app and reminds you before each dose. It is only a reminder: always confirm with your vaccination clinic.
